Maitland Environmental Plan

The Maitland Lateral Pipeline is a 3.3 km pipeline located in the Maitland Industrial estate 30km south-west of Karratha and was constructed in 2006.

In 2016, EDL LNG (WA) Pty Ltd (EDL) nominated AGI Operations Pty Limited (AGI Operations) to be the operator of the Maitland Lateral Pipeline under Pipeline Licence 74.

Environmental Plan Regulation

The Petroleum Pipeline (Environment) Regulations 2012 require the development and implementation of an Environment Plan (EP) to the satisfaction of the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DMIRS). The Maitland Lateral Pipeline Operations Environment Plan (EP) has been prepared to satisfy this requirement.

This regulation also requires AGI Operations to review and update the Maitland EP every five years.

We value your Feedback

AGI Operations is currently undertaking 5-yearly update on our Maitland EP and would like to invite you to provide your input. The purpose of the 5-year update is to:

  • Review and update to demonstrate environmental impacts and risks associated with pipeline activities are up-to-date and always reduced to as low as reasonably practicable.
  • Review and analyse to ensure that environmental performance objectives and standards have been met.

If you have any feedback, please email AGIG Environment Manager: melanie.kenny@agig.com.au by 13 December 2024 to be included in consultations.

Objective

The objectives of the Maitland EP is to demonstrate that AGI Operations provides and maintains as effective environmental management system that is capable of systematically and continually identifying, assessing and managing environmental aspects arising from the operation of Maitland Lateral. The Maitland EP aims to establish suitable controls so as to eliminate or minimise the risks to environment to a level that is low, negligible or reduced to as low as is reasonable practicable (ALARP). The Maitland EP further seeks to provide a framework for measuring environmental performance against legislative requirements and AGI Operations policies and standards.

In order to achieve this overarching objective, this Maitland EP specifically aims to:

  • Establish a set of performance standards and associated measurement criteria to inform the development of specific environmental controls procedures.
  • Provide rational and practical environmental guidelines for the operation of the Maitland Lateral, to ensure operational activities carefully consider the principles of Ecologically Sustainable Development and do not adversely affect adjacent environmental values
  • Ensure that any potential environmental impacts from the Maitland Lateral are managed in accordance with legislative requirements.
  • Develop environmental guidelines for conducting staff induction and training.
